EndSARS

One monday morning like that these 5 SARS officials came down to my office at Egbeda with one Mr Olumide, a bros that I know and started questioning me if I knew the Mr Olumide I told them yes. Mind you they were not on uniform o..

One of them asked me when was the last time I saw the Mr Olumide I told them like 3 weeks ago. I asked them what was the whole interrogation about one of them asked me that he wants to buy a phone I-phone 8 plus I told him I don’t sell phones, mind you am a mobile software engineer. He said but I sold phone (tecno cx) to the Mr Olumide 3 weeks ago.

I said yes that I needed some money for my house rent as at that 3 weeks ago I had to sell my personal phone to the Mr olamide so I could sort my house rent issue They then proceeded asking where I got the phone. I told them I bought it in the GSM village Olugbede market. I opened my drawer and brought out the receipt of the phone as proof of ownership.

One of them asked me to take them to the place I bought it.

I said no problem I took them 6 of them,5 SARS and Mr Olumide to where I bought the Phone I pointed to Mr Usman the person that sold the phone to me,he didn’t deny selling the phone.

My mind was at rest hoping that am out of whatever trouble it is not knowing what’s gonna happen next.

The next thing they said was that the phone was a stolen phone and that they have been tracking the phone for about 4 months ago.
I was already shivering then I thought since I bought the phone and showed my receipt and where I bought it that I don’t have any problem.

One innocent customer came to the Mr usman shop that moment that he wants to buy something he didn’t know they were on SARS you know dey didn’t put on their uniforms.

He was chased out the guy started vexing for the embarrassment the next thing the SARS started beating the guy serious beating oh! Their team leader brought out his pistol and asked him (the customer) to be chained.

The whole market was gathered no one could ask what was going on we were cuffed too;Me,Mr olumide and Usman, they took all the Usman phones that he was selling about 52 phones, both new and UK used, because they counted it though..

The shop was being shared between two people the other occupant was a woman she was pregnant.

So they wanted to empty her showglass too and she was claiming that those where not usmans phone their team leader gave this pregnant woman a serious slap.

Then the Igbo traders intervened and explain that her stuff’s are different from Usman own sha. They packed us inside a jeep,Highlander Jeep (Me,Usman,Mr Olumide, and the Innocent customer) chained like criminals and left I was wondering what’s happening.

They first of all took us to Idimu police station, they got down I didn’t know what they went into the station to do we where still in the Jeep.

Later they brought down the Innocent customer and started beating him cause he insulted them earlier. At this point I was very scared mehn!

Our phones has been seized at that moment.
About 30 mins later they returned the customer back into the jeep and started driving towards Ogba area at agege.BI don’t really know roads like that,I kept wondering where are these people taking us to. When we got to Ojodu the customer was already crying and begging that he didn’t know they where police. He was asked to pay 50k right inside the Jeep or he would be taken to the station he was just crying.

To cut his own part of the story they took him to one ATM spot he withdrew 18k for them I think that was the whole money with him and they dropped him there.

We proceeded on our journey
mind you I didn’t know where our destination is, I was terrified like mad seeing the brutalities they have been displaying. Naso we enter express o It was already getting dark like 7 or so.

They kept driving discussing and laughing, the driver was playing pasuma Fuji music
The three of us (me Mr Olumide and Usman) where very quiet during the whole journey.
At last we got to the station after several hours drive I was just looking like mumu.
They asked us to come down then I silently asked the Mr Olumide that where are we like this? He said IBADAN.

Ah I don die nobody knew where I am keh not my mum not any of my family I thought to myself.

My head was blank don’t know what to do they marched us to their OC office and the man started asking us questions one by one;our names, our statesb and how the phone got to our hands?

Olumide said he knows me very well and he bought the phone from me. I told them I bought the phone from Mr Usman with receipt.

The OC asked me where I got the receipt I told them it’s from Usman that he issued it when I bought it.

This OC now asked one funny question, he was like why didn’t I ask for the INITIAL receipt of the phone before buyingnI was trying to explain naso I chop another slap from one of the SARS that I should keep quiet that am talking while their oga is talking! Omoh
Usman was asked where he got phone the guy said he got it from somebody a long time ago that the owner just needed money when he bought it the OC said they should go and lock us up.

We were disposed of our stuffs everything and were taken into a cell omoh!.
That cell story sef is crazy mehn.

It has a small passage and 4 cells, everywhere is full no space, each room has nothing less that 60-70 people even the passage was full there was just one big OX fan at the entrance of the passage before entering the whole cell gate. We sha went through small questioning from their governor in the cell. They have Marshal, they have governor and OC torture in the cell

We sha chop slaps and they searched us they collect 1500 from me.I hid it inside my boxers so those police didn’t see it if not dem for don collect am ..

Now after hearing our story..
The governor Sha told us to come inside cell no 1. Na stand we stand over night
No space, I never see that kind gathering before like sardines. We are really suffering in this country I swear.

Fast forward to the next morning around 9:30 they brought us out to come and write statement;statement with slaps oh! I was confused I couldn’t remember how to spell my name properly sef. The Mr Olumide I think he has someone in Ibadan his people came down to the station that morning, after some discussion and all this man paid about 100k to them and Mr olumide was released immediately.

Ah I shock.
So Na money matter??I don die!
The IPO came to meet me and Usman and started asking us where we are from and so on I told him I am from Kogi State,I for just claim Ondo State Jeje that day O cos my Late dad was from Ondo, Mum is from Kogi. He asked which part I told him that it’s EBIRA naso these man said all ebira are criminals this and that that he would make sure I rot in jail. He was so serious as if it’s something personal.

I was confused, he asked Usman. Usman is Hausa but his mum is from Kogi too but ighala.

Fortunately for Usman the IPO too was an ighala man.

The same Kogi O,they started speaking Ighala language the werey started smiling.
I just knew my village People are after me at this point. This man went to bring food for Usman ni Sha. I was still confused as to what exactly did I do wrong to the IPO.
They allowed me call my mum with the IPO number, I wasn’t allowed to say much to mum on the phone. They just told her to come to DUGBE SARS station in Ibadan.

It was later in the cell that Usman was telling me that EBIRA people and IGHALAbpeople don’t like themselves. The country is bled mehn!

No love anywhere.
Imagine! What sort of tribalism is that one? Same state O, My mum came that second day. She was asked to go and bring 200k.
Mum said she doesn’t have such money that where is her son that she wanted to see her son, these SARS sent her out of the station that she not ready.

I was there for a week. There is this my uncle’s friend at Abuja that my mum called he knows people. He called the commissioner of police of Oyo State. The next Monday, I saw two black jeeps just came into the station compound and they summoned us,I and usman, two of the SARS people that came to arrest us and their OC were also taken straight down to the Commissioner’s office at Ibadan. Me I was just looking like mumu I don’t know what was going on. I heard the OC telling them not to mention the third party (Mr olumide that has been released the second day) at all in their explanations.

After waiting for like two hours downstairs they took us to the commissioner’s office. It was a two stories building, when I got there there was one office next to the commissioner’s office I saw my mum and sister sitting there.

I was relieved a bit.
When we got inside omoh see office like palace.

Seeing the OC the Commissioner just asked us that who who among the two of us (I and Usman) is the mother here presently. I raised up my hands I was shaking I thought my own don finish. He asked where is she, before I could talk the OC said ehn they have called her line that it’s switched off Ahhh! I quickly told the Commissioner that I saw my Mum in one of those offices just now as we were coming so they sent for her so she came with my sister.

Guys take care of your mothers O! Nothing like mothers love;Na me dey inside cell my mama don lean finish

So the commissioner started asking us questions. I explained my own part about the phone how I got it and receipt and all. He asked Usman he explained.,the commissioner was surprised
he asked me if I explained to the officers I said yes.
Confused he asked the OC
That why was I there since last week despite I produced receipt and showed them where and who sold the phone to me. The OC quickly denied instantly that he doesn’t know about the case that it’s until that same day morning that he’s just learning about it ah omoh I was too terrified to even counter their claims all I just wanted was to leave there alive. The commissioner apologized to my Mum and warned me to be careful whenever am buying something like that next time.
Then he asked “who was the complainant of the said stolen phone, there was total silence.
Ah!

Nothing!! the SARS couldn’t say anything Sha.No complainants and they were threatening us before that the owner of the phone was robbed that even a car was stolen. So all Na lie!! We are finished in this country.
I was Sha released that day…

So basically what these people do is to get some phones from God knows where and note down their IMEI and SERIAL numbers, give it to someone to sell in a market and start tracking the phones just to arrest people involved and extort them claiming it was robbed.

This country is bled mehn!

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN TODAY’S MARRIAGE; WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I’M IN SUCH CONDITION AS A BELIEVER?

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN TODAY’S MARRIAGE; WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I’M IN SUCH CONDITION AS A BELIEVER?

Domestic violence is a violence or other abuse in a marriage.
Domestic violence could involve any body but I’m looking at it in a family setting between a man and his wife.

Domestic violence includes

  • Physical, verbal, emotional, economic, religion reproductive and sexual abuse.

Many people are going through a lot in marriages today, some Christan homes inclusive. This has caused a lot of harms in homes, churches and the society at large. So many women have lost their lives in the process, men inclusive but women are mostly at the receiving end. And they endure mostly even to the point of loosing their lives. This they do because of:

  1. The love they have for their spouse
  2. Because of their children
  3. What the society will say about them
  4. Because of their faith and religion.

Please when beating and sexual molestation becomes the case in your home, there’s need for separation.

Now in as much as the Bible frowns at divorce, I don’t think it’ll be reasonable for one to remain in an abusive marriage where his/her life is a stake. The same children you think about will still be maltreated, neglected and will be forced to face horrible situations the moment you are gone. The same society you are thinking of what they will say will still blame you for not speaking out on time. Your making heaven is even very slim because I don’t think your heart is clean in that condition. Your bad thoughts, unforgiveness and bitterness is enough to send you to hell. And instead of you to commit murder, I think you should separate if that’s the only option left.

Many women are going through alot. When a domestic violence involves life threatening abuses, there’s need for you to seek for help.

Many women have died in this process. Pls being born again doesn’t mean your brain should be suspended. Yes divorce is a sin but you shouldn’t die either because you are married. You are being asked to keep praying often times, yes but you could do that also while away. Many women are dying silently. Women please speak out in such conditions, don’t keep quiet. Make sure the problem is not from you. Make sure you are not the cause of it.

I have seen a woman beating blue black by her husband. Not once not twice. Infact the man always use cane, belt etc on her. And she’s asked to keep praying. What if she die one day? What if she couldn’t take it any longer and tries to defend herself and kill her partner in the process, what will be her lot?

Women should take the necessary steps the moment they see that things are getting out of hand.

Try to see how you could save the situation by involving your spiritual leaders, your both families, the people your partner respects so much and if there’s no changes please take a break while you pray and take the necessary steps to save your marriage.

Pls note that your being away is for the mean time. Even while away you are to remain and keep your body. It’s not a time to go about messing up. If you do that you are commenting sin. You are to maintain sexual purity. Even when your partner is doing otherwise. The only time remarriage is possible is when one partner is dead. See Romans 7:2,1cor.7:39.

Neighbors should as well look out for their fellow women/men. Please speak out for them. Some of them are in a tight corner and can’t help themselves.

Stay tuned for the next post on this same topic!

Say no to domestic violence.

What’s your take on this? Share your opinion.
Will you allow your daughter, sister, brother, son go through domestic violence?
What will you have them do;the abused?

LEKKI SHOOTINGS: SANWO-OLU HAS LOST CREDIBILITY, SAYS FSD

LEKKI SHOOTINGS: SANWO-OLU HAS LOST CREDIBILITY, SAYS FSD

By Oladimeji Ramon

A group, the Federal Social Democrats, says the credibility and integrity of the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, have been diminished by the alleged shooting of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki tollgate on the night of October 20.

According to the group, the Lekki incident has eroded the admiration that Sanwo-Olu won with his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The group, in statement on Sunday signed on its behalf by Olutola Mobolurin, also condemned the harassment of #EndSARS protest leaders through the freezing of their bank accounts and stopping them from travelling outside the country.

The FSD’s statement was titled, ‘Statement by the Federal Social Democrats On the #EndSARS Movement and Violence in the Wake of Lekki Shootings.’

The group said, “Governor Sanwo-Olu, who before now has been credited with responsible and energetic response to the COVID-19 pandemic, has by this one act lost his credibility and integrity for many. He has a big task in regaining the confidence of the public and youths; his credibility gap surrounding what happened at the Lekki Toll Plaza is not helped by the insensitive bluster of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the governor’s residence stating that those who were injured and presumably those who died had questions to answer.”

Though the group condemned the destruction of public assets and looting that trailed the shootings at the Lekki tollgate, it said the mayhem pointed to the alienation of a large number of youths from society by government.

It said, “The so-called hoodlums are the youths that have been denied any stake in society by the self-dealing and state capture that have characterised governance over the last 30 years. Millions of our youths have been uneducated, unemployable and with no meaningful social safety net. Even for the millions who are educated and skilled, long-term unemployment has been their experience in the Nigerian prebendal political economy that serves primarily the interests of public office holders and their cronies.

“Some of the ‘hoodlums’ responsible for the trashing of Lagos are the youths and ‘the toughies’ that many politicians have over the years employed to subvert the democratic process through intimidation of voters and perpetration of violence during elections.”

The group said the organisers of the #EndSARS protests deserved commendation for the resourcefulness, transparency and accountability which they demonstrated.

The group condemned “the growing reports of compilation of names of the assumed leaders and facilitators of the protests for government reprisals.”

It said, “Those that are being targeted are reportedly being prevented from travelling outside Nigeria while accounts of some have been frozen. This is hardly the hallmark of a democratic government that is interested in dialoguing with the youths or learning positive lessons from the #EndSARS protests. It is also a violation of the spirit of government’s acceptance of the 5 for 5 agenda. The President should stop all these acts of witch-hunt.”

The FSD solicited support for the Lagos State Government to rebuild and replace the vandalised public assets.

APPOINTMENT OF WTO CHIEF IN DOUBT AFTER KEY MEETING CANCELLED

• Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala had been expected to be confirmed as leader on Monday

By Richard Partington

The race to find a new leader of the World Trade Organization has been thrown into renewed uncertainty after the cancellation of a key appointment meeting following the US presidential election.

The Geneva-based WTO, which acts as an international arbiter for trading disputes, said it had put off a meeting scheduled for Monday that had been called to appoint Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as its next director general.

Donald Trump’s administration opposed her selection in one of its final acts before the US election, despite the former Nigerian finance minister securing the overwhelming backing of the WTO’s 164 members.

The special meeting of the trade body’s general council had been convened to take a formal decision on the appointment. Officials had been set to put forward Dr Okonjo-Iweala as the candidate most likely to attract a majority, after most countries expressed a preference for her over South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee.

Okonjo-Iweala had moved a step closer to becoming the first woman and the first African to be director of the global trade watchdog after securing backing from the EU, China, Japan and Australia. Liam Fox, the leading Brexiter and former international trade secretary, had run as the UK government’s preferred candidate but failed to win enough support from other countries to reach the last two in the process.

Trade experts said Joe Biden defeating Trump in last week’s election may have led to countries calling for a delay in the WTO leadership race, with the aim of securing the Biden White House’s backing for Okonjo-Iweala after he takes charge in January.

The delay in selecting a new WTO director general comes at a fragile moment for the world economy amid the second wave of Covid-19, and after years of criticism of the WTO and calls for reform from Trump.

The WTO said the meeting would be postponed until further notice, during which time the organisation would continue undertaking consultations with delegations from countries around the world to pick a new leader.

It said in a statement: “For reasons including the health situation and current events, delegations will not be in a position to take a formal decision on 9 November.”
